Experience an enchanting musical journey with the Damsco Quartet at the historical Huis met de Hoofden. This beautiful Amsterdam city palace on the Keizersgracht dates back to 1622 and was used by the Conservatory in the 20th century. Today, it houses the 'Embassy of the Free Mind,' a meeting place where wisdom from around the world is gathered. It also serves as the backdrop for a unique and inspiring concert that you won't want to miss.

Musicians

Step into this historic location, leave behind the city’s hustle and bustle and let yourself be carried away by the sounds of four talented musicians from China, France, Georgia, and the Netherlands. The concert is performed by the Damsco Quartet, a popular string quartet composed of top talents from the Conservatory of Amsterdam: Yuxin Chen (viola), Nata Roinishvili (violin), Daniel Leenders (violin), and Manon Leroux (cello). These promising young musicians will take you on a surprising musical journey through their homelands.

Music Program

The afternoon begins with the enchanting tones of the traditional Chinese folk song, played by Yuxin. This beautiful melody is deeply rooted in the rich Chinese culture. Next, Nata takes you to Georgia, the gateway between Asia and Europe, where she reveals the special significance of music in her homeland and performs two fascinating miniatures by Tsintsadze.

Daniel, who is half Hungarian, bridges the gap between Eastern European folk music traditions and guides us to Bartók’s famous Romanian Dances - a true treat for your ears. Then, Manon takes you to the dreamy sound world of Ravel’s String Quartet, inspired by Eastern music and a mysterious, unattainable world.

The journey continues to the Netherlands, to the music of the talented female composer Bosmans. Daniel explains the influence of French music, such as that of Ravel and Debussy, on Dutch classical music and unveils the Eastern inspiration in the piece.

Finally, the Damsco Quartet pays homage to Dvorak, the Eastern European composer fascinated by folk music and the ‘New World.’ His famous 9th Symphony and American String Quartet are the highlight of the concert.

An inspiring concert you won’t want to miss!
